Andrew Mackenzie

Andrew first discovered his passion for storytelling and creating images at a young age after he realized his love of skiing wasn’t going to translate into a career as a pro athlete.

While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, Andrew cofounded Aether Films with Davis and Kyle, where he currently serves as the Creative Director and oversees the original content division of Aether.

One of Andrew’s early breakthroughs came with the project Kelly’s Wave  in 2015, marking the beginning of a longstanding collaboration with the surf icon Kelly Slater. Andrew continues to work with a diverse array of clients, from global brands like Toyota, Uber, Oakley, and Chipotle to organizations such as the Discovery Land Company and the Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC),  among others.

Collaboration is central to Andrew’s directing process. He firmly believes that the crew is just as integral to the storytelling process as the director, fostering an environment of mutual respect and innovation. His first feature-length film, Trilogy: New Wave,  is coming out in 2024 followed by Free Power,  which will be released in 2025. Beyond his feature documentaries, Andrew is currently involved in the development of several other documentary projects and episodic series.

Outside of his directorial pursuits, Andrew finds joy in traveling and immersing himself in different environments. When he isn’t chasing swells on shoots, Andrew can be found riding waves around his home, golfing or enjoying the company of his wife, Annie and daughter, Nina.
