Anjali Nayar

Anjali is an Indian-Canadian director, climate scientist and former pro soccer player. When she’s not working, you can find her surfing, playing violin, making macarons (the next batch will be better!) and dancing her butt off.

In the commercial world, Anjali has directed work with brands such as Amazon, Chipotle, Southern Company, ACER computers, Patagonia, Goldman Sachs, Mountain Equipment Co-Op and the San Diego Zoo.

Anjali also works extensively in film and documentary. She was named one of the 40 filmmakers under 40 by DOCNYC and her films have been supported by Cinereach, Sundance, and Tribeca, won countless awards, jury prizes, gone theatrical, and been acquired by Netflix and Amazon.

Anjali just wrapped a Netflix Original called HACK YOUR HEALTH about the secret science of eating with Academy Award-winning Tremolo Productions and her fantasy short CLOSER won the 2022 Prism Prize Audience Award (Canada’s version of the MTV awards). She’s currently working on a new documentary about the Golden State Warriors’ senior dance team (think Cheer but with 70-year-olds).

Beyond film, Anjali founded TIMBY, a social justice platform that’s active in 26 languages and 50 countries around the world. She also sits on the advisory of the Environment and Human Rights Division of Human Rights Watch and is an Associate Professor at Cornell University.

Before film, Anjali was a foreign correspondent based in Nairobi for Reuters for 10 years and studied climate science, space science and journalism at the University of Oxford, the International Space University and Columbia University, respectively.

Anjali lives between Los Angeles, Ojai and Montreal (her hometown).
